The famous saying has always been “spring ahead, fall back”! With this time change comes either celebration or moans and groans. Time is precious and the gift of an hour can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. However, changing your clocks back or ahead isn’t the only task on your list this weekend!
There is something in your home that plays a crucial role in keeping you and your loved ones safe from harm. These important items would be your smoke detectors. The thing is – you could have the best, most powerful smoke detector in the world, but if the batteries are drained, you’re not going to benefit from the protection when you need it the most. While there are some smoke alarms on the market that will offer you an extended battery, some as high as 10 years – most smoke alarms require you to change out the batteries every six months. If you can get in the habit of changing these batteries out every six months, you’ll be right in line with the professional recommendations. Now, if that smoke detector is approaching its 10-year lifespan, then not only will you have to change the clocks back but utilize that extra time you've just gotten to shop for a new one!
If for some reason you’re one of the lucky ones that forget to change their batteries, you might have found yourself being serenaded by the chirps and pings coming from the unit itself alerting you of its need of new batteries. It’s 2020, things are tough and sometimes the days just run into one another.
